The myth of isolation.
Using the methodology and terminology of Barthes, the cliché in the press of the film “A la Sombra del Sol” (“In the Shade of the Sun) (S. Caiozzi and P. Perelman, 1974) is analyzed here. The cinematographic publicity in the written press is the product of the work of a publicist who, immersed in a historical context, forms himself/herself an idea about the elements of the film that could arouse the public’s interest, and has summarized them in a series of graphic tools chosen to transmit that message. Unraveling the literal message held in the cliché has allowed us to understand the image spread about the film – the myth constructed around it -, it has also brought us closer to the historical and cultural context of its production. Taking the analysis a little further, looking for hidden values in that construction, might reveal us more ingrained and permanent cultural elements.
